Enrollment Process - Criteria for Admission
As an outreach ministry of Mt Harmony-Lower Marlboro United Methodist Church, The Wesley School is inspired by our Wesleyan heritage that believes Christian education is the key to a fuller, richer life for individuals and society. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin, sex, age, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or ability to pay. Our founder, John Wesley, stated that best school was one which combined academics with “a spark of heavenly fire, a taste of God, a seed of grace” and that education should be available widely.
The Wesley School encourages discovery of the knowledge and love of God among all people. We are an inclusive and welcoming school where individuals are valued, relationships cherished, and where neuro-diversity is recognized and respected . Our creative educational approach brings together mind and heart, intellect and passion, work and play, worship and prayer.
Kindergarten Entrance Policy
In accordance with Maryland State Department of Education regulations, to be eligible to enter kindergarten for the school year, children must be five years of age by September 1 of the school year.
Early Entrance Kindergarten Policy
Children who will turn five years old between September 2 and October 15 are eligible for consideration for the early entrance to the full day kindergarten class.
To be recommended for early entrance to kindergarten, children will need to demonstrate appropriate maturity in social/emotional and physical development, as well as developmentally appropriate performance in language and other cognitive skills. A team will thoroughly review each applicant’s information to determine if early placement would be advantageous for the child. The standards for early entrance are high to ensure that students are not frustrated by their advanced grade placement.
